MARKET STEER

Superintendent: Nancy Steig

No feed or water for steers left in the barn.

See General Rules and Junior Livestock Rules.

New Mexico Brand Requirements: All cattle, horses, sheep, and goats when traveling out of your district, must have a Certificate of Livestock Inspection from your local Livestock Inspector.

1.     Market calves must have been continuously owned and personally cared for by exhibitor since March 15 of current year and cannot be transferred from 4-H Club to FFA or vice versa or within family, during the feeding period. Calves must be owned by March 15 of the current year. Bill of Sale must be available to be checked by Beef Superintendent if requested.

2.     Entry Fee: $10.00 per head

3.     Medication: As described in Rule #19 of General Livestock Rules

4.     Calves may be purchased or cross bred but only steer calves may be entered.

5.     Steer classes will be determined by Superintendent.

6.     Deadline for disposition of all sale animals is Friday 30 minutes after lamb showmanship. Exhibitor is responsible for providing information to the Steer superintendent. If exhibitor does not inform Superintendent of disposition, animal will NOT be included in the sale.

7.       Steers will be classified by weight method. Weight 1000 pounds minimum.

8.      A cleaning fee of $25.00 will be assessed to exhibitor for unclean stalls

9.      Steer may be washed, blown, and combed prior to judging and weigh in. Absolutely no artificial coloring, glues, or adhesives will be allowed. NO EXCEPTIONS!! Steers may be subject to a white glove/towel test at any time by the Superintendent. Violators of this rule will be disqualified from the show. 

10.     Steers must be weighed and in place by Wednesday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Weigh back for animals that did not make weight must be done by 9:00 am on Thursday

MARKET STEER PREMUIMS

Premiums will be paid to the top 50% of the class

Grand Champion $50.00 Reserve Champion $35.00

1 Place $20.00 2 Place $10.00

COUNTY BRED STEER CLASS

Superintendent: Nancy Steig

This class shall consist of qualified junior market calves that have been bred on a ranch all or partially located in Catron County.

1.        Entry Fee $10.00 per head.

2.        Must be entered in the regular steer show and adhere to all market beef rules

3.        Grand Champion County Bred will not get to sell another animal.

4.        Steers must be weighed in and in place by Wednesday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Weigh backs for animals that did not make weight must be done by 9:00 am on Thursday.

COUNTY BRED STEER PREMIUMS

Grand Champion $50.00

1 Place $20.00 2 Place $10.00

HEIFER CLASS

Superintendent: Nancy Steig

  1. Entry Fee $10.00 per head.
  2. Heifers will not be sold during the Junior Livestock Auction.
  3. Heifers must be in place by Wednesday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. 

HEIFER PREMIUMS

DAIRY HEIFER CLASS

1. Entry Fe​e $10.00 per head.

2. Dairy heifers will not be sold during the Junior Livestock Auction.

3. Dairy heifers must be in place by Wednesday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
